Today would have been my Mum & Dad's 56th Wedding

Today would have been my Mum & Dad's 56th Wedding

Time flies when you're having fun and when you are with usually the one you love. As the years pass by, perhaps your anniversaries start to sneak up on you, with you and your loved one seemingly always finding yourself heading out to dinner again. Or possibly the big day comes and goes, and you don't do anything more because you're on a limited budget and can't think of something to achieve that is celebratory, memorable, and won't cost a fortune. (Sure, a trip to your wine country sounds perfect; but can it be worth refinancing your house and mortgage to finance this?)

Well, luckily, you can be both romantic and financially smart. Listed here are 5 inexpensive and exciting new ways to celebrate your anniversary.

1. Just Be Together

Take your day faraway from work, switch off the mobile phone, stop checking your email, and just spend some quality time together and save money. Keep it simple and remove yourselves from your busy everyday lives. Celebrate your daily life together because that is what your anniversary is all about.

2. Match Your Gift with Your Anniversary Year

If that is your fifth anniversary, give five roses. If this is your 10th anniversary, provide a 10-minute massage. Be thoughtful and fun. Create a game out of it, and see who is able to show up most abundant in creative number-themed gift.

3. Give Thoughtful Gifts

For every single anniversary year, you will find traditional gifts that you can give. For example, the gift for the first year is traditionally paper. Consider giving your better half stationery you've customized, a guide, a love letter, or other things connected with paper. It doesn't need to be expensive, just thoughtful. There is also a modern anniversary gift for each year. As an example, for the fourth anniversary, the modern gift is appliances, which might be a lot cheaper when compared to a pricey piece of technology. If you're interested in what these gifts are, this is a handy list of traditional and modern anniversary gifts by year.

4. Watch Your Wedding Video

I don't think I've ever watched my wedding video. Honestly, I'm not sure where it is. But what's the idea of experiencing a video made if you should be not going to view it? Your anniversary is a great opportunity to keep in mind that special day, so dust off that wedding DVD and watch highlights together. If you don't have one, perhaps you have a video of a vacation you took or another memorable occasion. Or even, look through your wedding album or pictures that you took during your years together.

5. Get Crafty

If you should be feeling a little artsy, go decorate some pottery for each other (most towns have a DIY pottery studio or two). Or make something together, such as for instance a photo album or scrapbook of the last year's events.
